For "2021 Unbounded Group Exhibition", we will present 23 artists selected from nearly 200 submissions. "UNBOUNDED" attempts to break the boundaries. In the selection process, we evaluate the submissions in terms of completion, reflection, and aesthetics. While adhering to academic standards, we seek to find the diversity of consciousness expressed by various artists and strive to present an inclusive and diverse exhibition to our audience.
Among the works that pay special attention to conceptual art, many of them experiment with the plasticity of photography and other art media. For instance,Wu Yumo challenges the visual image in traditional photography, while Chen Shan,Yang Yixiao, Liu Yuchen, Luo Rui, and Wang Qianqian use sculpture and painting respectively to play with the exploration and innovation of artistic language. Some artists focus on the visual language of the images themselves, such as Wang Jiandong, Feng Shaowu, Shi Yilin, Chen Wenyi, and Wu Yang, whose works center on everyday life and the natural environment. Zhu Yiming and Han Sansi both capture the nuances of day and night with their acute sensibility. Sun Fanxi and Wang Xueping demonstrate a strong female perspective, exploring the idea of self and intimate relationships through body photography. Wang Keqin,Xie Shuchang, and Li Jiaxin incorporate their emotions into specific environments and thus their projects focus more on family memories or hometown landscapes. Zhang Jinming and Li Xiaofa turn their attention to others, focusing on social environments and communities on a larger scale. Cai Yuanqi and Wang Weirong take the approach of research projects, combining photography with typology, or fieldwork in the context of local gazetteers. There are also other works that feature the duality of tradition and modernity, the East and the West. Zhou Jiexin combines the astrolabe and the traditional 24 Solar Terms, while Zeng Wanqiu situates her works in the discourse between Chinese and Western philosophy.
The UNBOUNDED exhibition project was launched by Three Shadows Photography Art Center Xiamen in 2018. We have presented 21 artists' solo exhibitions and one group exhibition so far, dedicated to discover and support potential young photography artists. The Unbounded project will continue, looking forward to presenting diverse art works in a boundless way. We also hope to find more artists through this project and provide them with a professional platform to display their works, meanwhile, connecting art lovers so that Unbounded Project could be a more extensive space for display and communication.
In this year's UNBOUNDED exhibition, we are honored to have two artists with rich creative experience, Chen Xiaoyi and Li Shun, leading our seminar session. They will facilitate the UNBOUNDED exhibition with their artistic perspectives and creative support. Many events and workshops will take place during the opening ceremony, in an attempt to create a flow of ideas and experiences. We expect the exhibiting artists to have a continuous output of works in the future, showing their thriving creativity.
