This exhibition presents some visual media works I created during the past two years of directing and producing a film. The film tells the story of how future humans cleverly utilized the first law of thermodynamics and events that occurred in ancient China, enabling the whole civilizations to survive the Great Extinction. The core of this story is rooted in my long-standing research interest in the Eastern classical cosmology and the cyclical detour of history.
Outside of the movie, I am building a more subtle, three-dimensional, and never told Eastern narrative. It is precisely at this stage that I turned to the medium of painting to enter the aesthetic fog that films find difficult to navigate. "Dream" is a metaphor for this exhibition. Compared to the wild sci-fi setting in the movie script, each individual work here is modest and quiet. Most of them come from my movie, but they have independent new semantics. They also reflect on me, who is obsessed with creating that script world . What kind of fascination it is - as I constantly enter and exit the world in the script, constantly substitute for the characters in the story, and then detach, a part of my self has already lost in the boundary between reality and story, just like chuang chou dreaming a butterfly.
